About
Why this practice exists
Large companies spend hundreds of thousands of dollars each year on the systems, controls and people that produce timely, accurate financial statements, because that is what lets their leaders make good decisions quickly. Until recently that was out of reach for small and mid-size companies. Diversified Accounting exists to bring those same capabilities to them. It is led by Anthonee Gibbs, a CPA, CMA and PMP who spent fourteen years building and implementing those systems inside large organizations.
Why I started Diversified Accounting
I wanted to start my own business and control my own time, spending it with my family of five. I have always felt like small and mid-size businesses were not reaching their potential because their owners and employees were burdened with low-value manual tasks that can be automated, freeing up owners and employees to focus more on their customers and products. My background, described below, positioned me well to launch Diversified Accounting and make a difference for many smaller businesses rather than for the large corporations I worked for in the past.
Diversified Accounting is meant to be a complete solution rather than a narrow one, which is where the name comes from. The bookkeeping and the monthly close, the trusted advisor behind the decisions, and automation that does not have to be an accounting process at all. If something in your business is eating a person's day or week, it is worth looking at. We are based in Ridgefield and work across Clark County, Southwest Washington and the greater Portland Metro area, and support businesses across the nation.
Background Experience
I hold a Master's and a Bachelor's in Accounting, along with my certifications, which include Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant and Project Management Professional. I started my career at Amazon as an operational accountant, doing by hand the work the systems either did not do yet or did not do well. I spent most of every month in spreadsheets, and on small manual steps like gathering and formatting data. I wanted to build and mature those systems myself, so I moved to the technical side and spent years designing and building the custom accounting systems Amazon itself runs on.
Then came an opportunity at a venture-funded FinTech that receives payments and sends remittances. I was charged with getting them on track to becoming a public company. I started from ground zero. I identified the financial risks they were most exposed to, then worked through the architecture, the system requirements, the design and the build. By the end they had gone from no automation at all to 96%, with controls where there had been none and financial statements you could actually rely on, all while processing over 130 million transactions a month.
