Outsourced Accounting Department
Your whole accounting department, without hiring one
A professional, knowledgeable team performing your full-cycle accounting close every month, with a fractional CFO and Controller alongside it, for a fraction of the cost of hiring full-time employees. It includes everything in our Bookkeeping and Client Advisory Services, as one engagement.
What is an Outsourced Accounting Department?
It is the accounting and finance function of your business, run by our team instead of by employees you hire. We perform the full-cycle accounting close every month: transactions categorized and reconciled, payables, receivables and payroll, then the accruals, adjusting entries and balance sheet reconciliations that turn a set of books into financial statements you can rely on.
Alongside the close, you have a fractional CFO and Controller. The Controller makes sure the financial statements are right. The CFO looks forward, at cash, pricing, margins and the decisions in front of you. Most growing businesses need both long before they can justify hiring either one full-time.
Save tens of thousands compared with hiring in-house
Building the same team in-house means a bookkeeper, a Controller and eventually a CFO, each with a salary, benefits and payroll taxes, plus the cost of recruiting and replacing them. One engagement covers the whole team for a fraction of that, which can save a business tens of thousands of dollars a year, and there is no gap to cover when an employee leaves.
Free up the people you already have
In many small businesses the books end up with whoever was nearest: an office manager, a project coordinator, a family member. They may not know accounting or be the best fit for it, and every hour they spend on it is an hour away from the work you hired them for. Hand it to a team that does this every day, and let them get back to theirs.
What it covers
Everything in Bookkeeping
Transactions categorized and reconciled continuously, payables and receivables, payroll, job costing, inventory and state regulatory filings, in the accounting software you already use, with the subscription included.
The full-cycle close, by a fractional Controller
Accruals, prepaid expenses, deferred revenue, adjusting and reversing entries, depreciation schedules, and reconciliations for every balance sheet account, not just the bank and credit card. The result is financial statements that hold up in front of a lender, a buyer or an auditor.
Fractional CFO (Chief Financial Officer)
Cash forecasting far enough ahead to act on, pricing and margin analysis, scenario planning before you commit capital, and the conversation with your lenders. Someone who knows your business and will give you an honest, unbiased opinion.
One team, one engagement
Bookkeeping, the close and advisory under one roof, so nothing falls between a bookkeeper, an outside accountant and an advisor who each see only part of the business. Entity formation and registered agent service are included in Client Advisory Services too, whenever you need them.
What this looks like in practice
Two staff accountants or an outsourced team
A growing business whose accounting has become too complex for the owner and a part-time bookkeeper often decides to hire two staff accountants, at $140k a year all-in with salary, benefits and payroll taxes. Outsourcing the same work to us instead saves tens of thousands of dollars a year, and the business also gets access to higher-level experts through our fractional CFO and Controller, which two staff accountants would not bring.
